A House for Mary
In June 2009 a party of twelve of us with a combined age of far too many years set off for Zambia with Habitat for Humanity to help build a house for a widow by the name of Mary Chifwembe who was living in a makeshift tent with her niece and their 7 children in the Chazanga district of Lusaka.
We were funded by the work and contributions of so many in the Church and in the time away we were held together in Faith, in Prayer and in His Love.
The pictures give a glimpse of what can be done when we come together in His service.
“Ever since I moved into our new house, I have so much piece of mind. I don’t have to worry about my shelter catching fire that easily as was the case with the tent, I don’t have to worry about sharing a room with my 18 year old son, and I don’t have to worry about spending sleepless nights once the rains start in the next 2 months”, says Mary with tears collected in her eyes. She is also no longer worried about where her children will live should she die earlier than them. She was indeed wise not to sell her piece of land despite her poverty and the pressure from the neighbors and some family members. This support is truly life changing for Mary and her children.
